Who is Salad
Salad Technologies specializes in leveraging distributed GPU resources for AI/ML inference at scale within the cloud computing industry. Salad’s platform enables containerized application deployment on a global network of consumer-grade GPUs, providing an affordable alternative to traditional enterprise cloud services.

Situation
Salad Technologies was founded in 2018 and quickly developed a successful crowd-sourced network of consumer GPUs. Having scaled this network to a large set of highly-available nodes spanning a wide range of GPU performance levels, Salad now offers the most affordable cloud for AI/ML inference at scale compared to the traditional hyperscalers.

Developers are an important audience for Salad, so CEO and Co-founder Bob Miles wanted to ensure issues surfaced within their developer experience to maximize conversion.

Before undertaking the audit with our Developer Experience & Friction Audit toolkit, we worked closely with Salad’s team to understand their Ideal Developer Profiles (IDP). Then, our developers adopted those personas to complete the audit.

 

Solution
We took on the personas of a mid-market engineer and a startup founder, with varying levels of awareness about the Salad cloud solution.

Next, we proceeded through the developer journey to Discover, Evaluate, Learn, and Build with Salad using their available learning resources and platform. This process allowed us to understand the technology offered and a developer's journey to use it. Over one hundred pages of specific steps and points of friction were uncovered along the way.

 

From this, a set of actionable insights was created and prioritized for the client to improve their developer experience (DX). Strategic advice was also offered in regards to marketing and brand, and their business model.

An overall DX maturity score was provided, a baseline for Salad to re-score the effectiveness of future enhancements.
